This week, co-author of 'The TV Delusion', Joanna van der Leer joins me to discuss her foray into the weird and wonderful world of foraging. Far from merely sourcing free food for a good meal, the fruits of her labours can be used for natural remedies and as a great source of REAL education, recreation and relaxation for children and adults alike!
Really enjoyed listening to Joanna. My husband and 10 yr old son are keen foragers, they just actually attended a foraging day last weekend in Perthshire!
We have discussed repeatedly about this knowledge being vital, especially if access to bank accounts is restricted, knowing how & what to forage will be crucial.
Oh, and I think cleavers are called sticky willy's in Scotland! We add them to salads & stews!
Thanks Susan! Haha yes I forgot to mention the other name for cleavers π. Great to hear your husband and son are keen foragers and yes completely agree the knowledge is vital π
Cleavers work. I grab a small handful wash them in filtered water then I discard that water. Fill a small pan with new filtered water and the cleavers and almost bring to the boil. The water changes to a yellowish colour. Then I like a teaspoon of honey in a mug and pour in the cleaver water once if has cooled a bit and I even add a knob of raw butter (unsalted). This is a pleasant drink and you feel the effect. When you get urge to pee it is twice as strong and slightly more frequent for about two days.
