Why your kids can't spell
The above, is an actual screenshot of a GCSE Exam paper (a real one) from the 2022 national examinations series in the UK.
GCSEs are for 16-year-olds.
How is it that a boy or girl of 16 cannot spell either ‘distance’ or ‘travelled’?
They haven’t even started the sentence with a capital letter… at 16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This, I’m sorry to say, is not an isolated incident.
When marking GCSE Mathematics Paper 1 Higher Tier 2023, I recorded the following.
“I took screenshots of the FIRST
500 of the 685 hand-written answers…
… 497 of the 500 I photographed contained
errors that a Primary-schooler used to deal with!”
It is a national DISGRACE.
