“That’s obvious, FOOL!”
7 - 5 = 2
Seven minus five equals - or is the same as - two, that’s a done deal, right?
“That’s obvious, FOOL!”
Or is it?
What if this fool of a mathematics specialist told you that in actual fact: Positive two was the sum of positive seven and negative five?
In other words, the sum above isn’t to be viewed as “seven MINUS five,” but instead as plus seven and minus five?
(+7) + (-5) = (+2)
Or even: The result of positive seven and negative five is positive two.
Why does this matter?
If your child can only view 7 - 5 = 2 in a narrow way, they will go on to have difficulties in negative numbers and in both intermediate and advanced algebra at secondary school… that’s before we even get onto the wonders of trigonometry!
I think it’s time we looked together at your son/daughter’s mathematical education.
If you yourself have concerns around maths, or you are simply curious as to what is going on in “school maths,” then you’d be a FOOL to miss out on this Sunday’s webinar:
