Primary school children aren't taught maths by maths teachers...
and it shows!
Think about that.
If your child goes to an Indoctrination Centre (school), then they are unlikely to meet a professional mathematics teacher until the age of 11 or 12.
(These days they are allowing TA’s - Teaching Assistants - to ‘teach’ the weaker students… in my experience, MANY TA’s cannot do even rudimentary maths themselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
The MOST CRUCIAL years (ages 7-10) in your child’s mathematical journey are ‘looked after’ by someone with a degree in:
-art
-media studies
-geography etc.,
Or, perhaps, with a degree in “Primary Education” (whatever THAT means!)
People with proper training in the teaching and learning of mathematics don’t become primary school teachers - this almost never happens.
Those with mathematics degrees can make a much happier, healthier and more lucrative living USING their mathematics, rather than teaching it.
This is all wrong. In fact, it’s a disaster.
Young, sponge-like minds should be given the best mathematics teachers we have to offer.
If children get off to a truly GREAT start in mathematics, things don’t fall apart later.
