Down with the Home 'Recreators'
By now, most of you will know precisely what I think of the Home Recreators…
… you know, the ones who withdrew precious Tarquin and Tallulah from the school system in order to engage in Home Recreation (often incorrectly called Home Education).
Sadly, a large slice of those who believe they are Home Educators are, in fact, nothing more than Home Recreators.
Recreation can be edifying but it in no way replaces a properly rigorous education and frankly, they are giving the genuine educators; the ones that choose the home and the great outdoors as their classrooms, a bad name.
Tarred with the same brush!
My biggest peeve, however, is that the Home Recreation lot can’t even get Art and Design right (!)
Dear Home Recreators,
Potato printing ISN’T art!
#justsaying
The lack of respect for academically rigorous subjects such as English and mathematics is unsurprisingly rife amongst those who think education is digging the vegetable patch and learning Kumbaya on guitar!
However, even more disappointing is their approach to the wide range of vital subjects loosely covered by the Art and Design umbrella.
Designers solve some of humankind’s biggest challenges, such as proper sanitation, housing and waste disposal.
“Mincing about in the kitchen with paint and potatoes does not the artist - or designer - make.”
That is why I am delighted to share with you, HatchEd.
HatchEd has been created by The Secret Art professor, who is a current lecturer at one of the UK’s leading universities.
Hacked off with the dismal standard of student that is now being accepted into art school, she has taken action and created a wealth of genuinely creative and rigorous teaching and learning materials for students, parents and grandparents who want to engender real creativity.
The kind of creativity that is ground out of those poor souls trapped in the government indoctrination centres (aka schools).
It is rare that I share the work of others on my Substack, however being rigorous about the creative arts is just as important as learning your multiplication tables!
So, I highly recommend checking it out for yourselves!
Education not indoctrination!
